George Kunos, M.D., Ph.D. (unpaid advisor)
Dr. Kunos is Senior Investigator, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institutes of Health. He is recipient of the Mechoulam Award of the International Cannabinoid Research Society, and the NIH Director's Award. Dr. Kunos' laboratory is studying the role of endocannabinoids in neuroendocrine, metabolic and cardiovascular regulation. Dr. Kunos received his M.D. degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest and his Ph.D. from McGill University in Montreal where he worked with Mark Nickerson on adrenergic receptors. He joined the faculty in Pharmacology and Medicine at McGill University and soon thereafter joined the NIAAA at NIH as Chief of the Laboratory of Physiologic and Pharmacologic Studies.
Dr. Kunos moved to the Medical College of Virginia in 1992 to Chair the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology. He returned to NIH in 2000 as Scientific Director of NIAAA where he is also Chief of the Laboratory of Physiologic Studies. He is an elected Fellow of the American Heart Association and a foreign member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Ed Doo, M.D. (unpaid advisor)
Dr. Doo is Program Director, Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition, National Institutes of Health. He administers and oversees a basic, translational, and clinical research grant portfolio that encompasses clinical research and clinical trials in liver diseases; fatty liver disease; the genetics of liver diseases; viral hepatitis and infectious diseases; and pediatric liver diseases. He identifies and supports research proposals that advance knowledge of liver disease pathophysiology on a cellular and mechanistic level, can be translated to improve our understanding of liver disease pathogenesis, and potentially lead to improved diagnosis and treatment of the underlying liver condition.
Dr. Doo received his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College and performed his residency in digestive diseases at UCLA Medical Center.
Ranganath Muniyappa, M.D., Ph.D (unpaid advisor)
Dr. Muniyappa is Staff Clinician, Clinical Endocrinology Section, Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Obesity Branch, NIH/NIDDK. He is also Chief of the Inpatient Diabetes Consult Service, at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases.
Dr. Muniyappa received his medical degree from Bangalore Medical College, and did his residency and received his Ph.D. from Wayne State University.
Robert Taber, Ph.D.
Dr. Taber has over 30 years of experience in executive pharmaceutical and biotechnology research and development positions. Dr. Taber served as Senior Vice President for Research and Development at Synaptic Pharmaceutical Corporation, Vice President of Pharmaceutical Research for DuPont Merck and as the Director of Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Research for DuPont Pharmaceuticals. He began his industrial career at Schering-Plough where he served as Director of Biological Research.
Dr Taber co-founded and served as the first President and Chief Executive Officer of Message Pharmaceuticals. He also serves as a Board member for Palatin Technologies and Antyra, Inc. and is involved as a pharmaceutical and biotechnology consultant. Dr. Taber holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Medical College of Virginia and a B.S. in Pharmacy from Rutgers University.
